San José, the capital city, is the main hub for travelers arriving in Costa Rica and the center of Jewish life in the country. Many visitors choose to stay here for the first or last nights of their trip, and for Jewish travelers, San José offers the options for kosher food and minyanim. It is also a base for day trips to Poás Volcano, Irazú Volcano, La Paz Waterfall Gardens, coffee plantations, cultural tours , markets and adventure parks.
Synagogues and Minyanim
Centro Israelita – This is the only place in Costa Rica with daily minyanim. Visitors must request permission in advance and send a passport copy before attending services.
Chabad San José – Holds Shabbat services and lunch but there are no daily minyanim. This Chabad House serves mainly the local community

Things to do in Manuel Antonio include: visiting the national park (monkeys, sloths, tropical birds, jungle trails, and beautiful beaches), catamaran cruises with snorkeling, mangrove boat tours, ATV and zipline tours,kayaking, and enjoying sunsets from the beach.
The town offers boutique hotels and luxury resorts surrounded by nature.
There is no synagogue and no kosher restaurant in Manuel Antonio. However, it is very convenient to keep kosher because Jaco is close by. Travelers can stop in Jaco on the way to pick up kosher meals, or order kosher food delivery from the Jewish Center in Jaco directly to their hotel in Manuel Antonio. which makes meal preparation easier.
Shabbat in Manuel Antonio can be pleasant only when staying at a resort with easy beach access.

Important for Jewish Travelers:
Monteverde does not have any kosher restaurants or a synagogue, and there are no Shabbat services in the area. For this reason, it is not recommended to stay in Monteverde over Shabbat, as food access and walking distances can be challenging.

Many visitors enjoy Guanacaste for beach activities such as snorkeling, catamaran cruises, surfing, and quiet coastal towns. It’s ideal for relaxing by the ocean, but it offers fewer nature and adventure experiences than destinations.
There are no kosher restaurants, no Jewish center, and no synagogue in Guanacaste. There are also no Shabbat services. Travelers who keep kosher usually bring food with them, stop in Jaco or San José to pick up meals before traveling, or arrange kosher food delivery from the jewish center in Jaco.

Santa Teresa
Santa Teresa is a popular beach town known for surfing, parties, and a lively atmosphere. It is especially suitable for young travelers who enjoy beach life and a social vibe. The ocean in Santa Teresa has strong currents and is not recommended for casual swimming, but most activities in the area are sea-related, such as surfing lessons, beach hangouts, and boat trips.
Reaching Santa Teresa can be done by a speed boat from Jaco, by ferry from Puntarenas, or by a domestic flight into Tambor followed by a 40 minutes drive.
Jewish and kosher services:
Santa Teresa has a Chabad House with a synagogue. There are no daily minyanim, but there are Shabbat minyanim. Chabad also offers Shabbat meals and a kosher dairy restaurant.
For meat meals its optional to order foor delivery from Jaco.

The area is remote compared to other destinations, so travel time from San José is longer.
Jewish and kosher services:
There is no synagogue and no kosher food in Puerto Viejo. Travelers who need kosher options usually pick up meals in San José before continuing the drive to the Caribbean coast.
